My research has involved Marxist history, local women's history, and the history of marginalized groups in modern and contemporary Japan. I have researched issues in social and cultural movements as well as gender issues in modern Japan. At present, I am writing a series of articles and a book on cultural movements in Japan during the early postwar period.
